Boeing has faced civil lawsuits,congressional investigationsand massive damage to its business since the crashes in Indonesia and Ethiopia.
The president urged the airplane manufacturer to reach a deal that "gets these firefighters the pay and benefits they deserve."
"I almost grew a fear of flying," said the former quality inspector for one of Boeing's main suppliers, Spirit AeroSystems.
No planes have been taken out of service, but the company must create a plan to address ones that are already flying, the FAA said.
WHAT'S HAPPENING
The embattled aircraft manufacturer is at odds with the firefighters' union over a new contract. The union calls the lockout a safety risk.
Joshua Dean, a former quality auditor at Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems, died following a sudden illness.
The Boeing jet lost the slide shortly after takeoff last week at New York Citys JFK Airport.
Sam Salehpour is scheduled to speak to a Senate panel Wednesday about his concerns over Boeing aircraft.
"That's not how you build a plane," the engineer told reporters Tuesday.
The flight, a Boeing 737-800 aircraft, was on its way to Houston when the mechanical issue occurred.
